Eagle Scouts

Last year, I took high school senior photos for Ryan and Quintin's older brother, Nolan. So I was extremely happy when their mothers called to say they wanted me to take photos for these awesome Eagle Scouts! What an honor - for them - and for me to take their Eagle Scout portraits. Congratulations Quintin and Ryan!!

Diana wanted one with her Eagle Scout - proud mama!

Family and Thanksgiving!!

You hear it all the time..."Grandchildren are wonderful!" It is true! Two of my granddaughters came over for lunch after church a week ago. Roger had made some awesome lasagna and we had some leftover so some of our family came over and the two granddaughters love hamming it up for Gigi!

Jocelynn asked me today, "Gigi, why haven't you put the pics from last weekend or the one from Thanksgiving on the internet, yet? I have to update my Facebook profile!"

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with old friends and new. I miss my friends at my former church, but I love my new church, especially going with more of my family.

Our deep-fried turkey. Don't you just want to pull off that skin?
Our friend, Mike, has deep-fried one of our turkeys every year for years.
Jeremy - I think he is stuffed - waiting for group photo.
Look at my drawings, Uncle Jeremy!
Family and friends - old and new!
"Take a picture of me and baby, Gigi! Will you send it to me on email?"

The not so fun part of Thanksgiving...
It was a tight-squeeze, but we managed to put 18 people in here!
"What! We have to do dishes?"
"Yay! We're all going to bed and doing the clean-up tomorrow." Veronica said, "Afterall, the world could come to an end tonight and then we won't have to do them."

Steve and Erin's family - First Look!

Erin's having another baby! She wanted some family/maternity portraits before the baby comes in just a few short weeks. I LOVE THIS FAMILY! Steve amuses himself and those around him and Erin is one of the calmest, friendliest people I know. How can you not love those little redheads? Can't wait to meet the newest member of the family.

Patiently waiting for baby!

Yes, their last name starts with "P"

Portrait Palooza

The power of a community is unparalleled…. and the photography community in Las Vegas is beyond powerful!
What started as a simple idea has now grown into an incredible event. It is truly amazing to see what can be accomplished when a community unites for a cause:)
I am so proud to announce this exciting Portrait Palooza!! Photographers in Las Vegas are aiming to raise at least $10,000 for Savannah Grace Lighten, and we need your help!
Savannah Grace Lighten was born September 19th, 2010 with severe brain damage. Her parents Terrence and Suzi Lighten are members of the Las Vegas photography community, and are two of the most kindhearted and giving people I have ever met. Please visit Savannah’s Journey to learn more about her heartbreaking story. And a word of caution… if you are a mother, make sure a box of tissues is nearby when you read Suzi’s first blog entry;)
The Lighten family has hopes that a treatment called Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy will help Savannah recover from her serious brain injuries, and the Las Vegas photography community wants to see her receive these treatments. Which brings us to the grand Portrait Palooza!!
Now for some details….
Who: 20-30 of Las Vegas’ finest professional photographers

What: 100 families donating $100 towards a private portrait session (details coming soon on what will be included with the donation!). Just in time for the holidays too! Greeting cards anyone?!?!

When: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, November 19, 20, 21, appointments will be available from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
Where:  HENDERSON – Sunset Park, Henderson, NV, picnic area “D” right next to the pool (Nov 19, and 20th)
SUMMERLIN – JW Marriott (Sunday, Nov. 21st)
How: families should visit www.PortraitPalooza.com where all the details will be available (currently under construction, but we’re almost there!)
THANK YOUS: Mindy Miller of Red Rock Studios for this blogpost, Steve Fogarty, of Fogarty Foto has been an integral part of this project. Without his energy and commitment, Portrait Palooza would be greatly suffering!  Jayse Hansen designed the incredible PortraitPalooza logo. DWAlliance is donating their event scheduling software, a key contribution necessary to coordinate all these moving parts. Michael Testagrossa of the JW Marriot is donating use of their grounds for PortraitPalooza North on Sunday, November 21, 2011. Juliet Douglas of Green Orchid Events is coordinating the on-site atmospherics and staffing. And of course, the dozens of photographers who are donating many hours, and lots of talent, toward helping baby Savannah. Please check the Portrait Palooza website regularly to see an updated list of participating photographers, growing every day:)

Veteran's Day Weekend - Painting

Here we go again!! While I love our bungalow, I don't like that most of it is white, especially the carpet. We are slowly remodeling our home and when Roger's sister, Phyllis, called to say that she and her family wanted to come visit for Veteran's Day weekend, we said we would love to have them, but we were already planning on painting. Being the great relatives they are, they still said "yes, that they would come and help!"

Here we go! We spent all day on Thursday getting everything out of the kitchen.

A couple of "before pics." We've had splotches of paint on the walls for months, trying to figure out what color we like.

Before pics of the painters!

Are we going to like all this color? It's so scary to pick colors!

Built-in entertainment!

I'm not too afraid of heights, but more than that, I don't want the main breadwinners falling off the ladder!

Veronica is afraid of heights, but she's usually fine once she's off the ladder.

Awesome relatives!

Worn out after one day!
Next day...
Now we begin the after pics!!

Ready to go to breakfast! Yes! No more white walls (in the kitchen and dining room, anyway).

Baker's Rack back up...

Pictures all hung.

New angle for the dining room table.

Roger will be finishing the cabinets for the next project. We hope to replace the floor tile with wood floors, eventually.

We are all happy with the colors.

Office, bedrooms, and hallway are the only ones left to be painted. Paint! It's magic!!

Roger and Me at Valley of Fire

On Sunday, after church and after Roger and I took photos of the confirmation students (he helped with the lights), Roger asked me to go for a Sunday drive. It was a gorgeous day and since we had already had enough with Halloween with our Trunk or Treats and "no kids coming to our neighborhood", I jumped at the chance.

While we were taking photos at this turnoff, we saw the wedding photographer taking photos. Soon, the minister started walking towards us when he saw Roger's car...

Surprise! It was our friend, Bob! Roger and Bob used to spend Saturday afternoons together when they were trying to start a church plant in St. George. Sometimes they would eat at Sugar's (a dive restaurant with great hamburgers in Overton). Roger had already planned on going there so I asked Bob if he wanted to join us, but he said Shirley was waiting for him.

My state is pretty.

Fun date with Roger!

Took this right before we stopped for dinner. Our Sunday drive was very nice riding with the top down.
